The Formation
Well we started out in the summer between year 8 and 9. The original idea of starting a band came from Amrit (rhythm guitar) and Beth (drums). At first neither of them thought anything serious would take off from it. Then one day on MSN Amrit asked Fliss if she wanted to join a band as the vocalist and so of course she jumped at the chance and told Amrit that she would get some people for lead guitar and bass.
So later on at Hanford Park, Fliss decided to ask Hoppo (lead) and Ash (bass) if they would like to join in, as she knew they both could play guitar (of course Ash had never picked up a bass in his life so that was a new experience), they both agreed and the band was formed!
Naming
Well we got together at Hoppo's house the next day with the only instruments we had at the time, a couple of guitars and our voices, and started to write a song which then became known as Untitled. We then began to think of a name and chose the first one that sounded alright. Which happened to be the name Kassi, which Beth thought of after Hoppo's dog Cassie. This name was later to change to The Rio's and then changed to Back To The End when we did our first ever recording!
Getting The Equipment
As I said before, we started off with just a few guitars and our voices. But we soon got all the equipment we needed. First of all we got the bass. It wasn't anything special, just a sun-burst electric bass guitar with a small amp from Argos for £150. Ash soon picked it up pretty quick and was soon playing as if he'd played all his life. Next to get was the drum kit. Beth had been searching e-bay every 5 minutes looking for a cheap drum kit in good condition and she eventually found a kit in from her now drum teacher's girlfriend for about £120. We could now start making up songs with a drum beat and a bass line (although we have now added a bass line to Untitled), and so Rockaholic was born! Later on Ash bought his own bass guitar.
School
Going back to school in the September of 2005 was a strange experience as not many people knew about the band but most of our friends were happy with it and were keen to hear us play. We also got the support of our music teacher, Mr Clowes, he let us use his room to practice every Monday after school for an hour and was keen to get us to audition for the school variety show. Of course not everyone was as nice about it as our friends. There were plenty of people cracking jokes about it (some were worse than others) and people messing around asking us to play them something or sing them something. But we knew that we had something going and so ignored all the jeers and comments.
Our First Performance
Well our first performance wasn't much of a gig, we only had Untitled made at the time and we were playing with an acoustic guitar in Fliss's back garden at a barbeque for her birthday. We played pretty well but we weren't really sure what to do with ourselves but we played pretty well and people seemed to enjoy it. Later we performed in front of our school in the Variety Show. That show really turned us around because we had been planning to split up straight after. Fliss had kept on going on about how that once we had performed for real on a stage then we would want to stay and do more...and she was right. After the first night of the show everyone was jumping around and laughing because we had played the best we had ever played in our lives, and it was even better the second night! This of course made us see what we could do, even though we knew that there was more to come. It also got us a chance at...
Recording
Recording! we got this chance because of Fliss's Dad, he had seen us at the show and thought we were pretty good. But he wanted a hard copy so that we could see where we are going wrong and so that we can show others, who weren't able to make it to the show, just how good we are. And so on March 4th 2006 we set off to Silverdale to record our first CD. We only had 4 songs sorted but we were really hyper and it was even better that there was a fresh blanket of snow on the ground. Recording the songs was a totally new experience...none of us had stepped foot in a recording studio before and so we were all really curious about what everything did. We also found out about some new equipment...The Pods! These were a kind of amp attachment which were so new to us all (Hoppo was going on and on about how he wanted one) and Fliss found microphone heaven. We then made about 50 copies and started to distribute them out at school for £2.00.
The Future
Well we aren't sure about what is yet to come but we do know that whatever happens we'll face it head on and get through it side by side. We've had our arguments in the past but we've fought our way through them all and come out on top
